The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a highly-anticipated annual cricket event that showcases the T20 format of the game. The fast-paced nature of the IPL has made it famous for producing thrilling matches, where batsmen go all out to score as many runs as possible. While scoring a century in any cricket format is an impressive feat, achieving it in the IPL is particularly challenging due to the limited number of overs per match.
Despite this, some exceptional players have managed to score centuries in record-breaking time. Three players hold the record for the fastest century in IPL history, including Chris Gayle, Yusuf Pathan, and David Miller. Gayle’s extraordinary knock of 175 runs off just 30 deliveries while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in 2013 remains the highest individual score in the IPL. He showcased his trademark aggressive style, relying on boundaries and sixes, to decimate the Pune Warriors bowlers and lead his team to an astonishing victory.
Yusuf Pathan, the explosive all-rounder from India, comes in at a close second with his 100 runs off 37 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians in 2010. His powerful hitting and ability to clear the boundary with ease left the Mumbai bowlers reeling and helped his team secure a convincing win.
David Miller, the South African batsman, rounds off the top three with his memorable century off just 38 balls for Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. Miller’s knock was a masterclass in aggressive yet calculated batting, as he struck an incredible eight sixes and seven fours to guide his team to victory.
The IPL has seen some breathtaking batting performances over the years, with Gayle, Pathan, and Miller’s centuries standing out as some of the most impressive. These players’ ability to score runs quickly and decisively has earned them a special place in the hearts of cricket fans worldwide.
