The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in the world, where many franchises compete to win the title. Coaches play a crucial role in their team’s success, and out of the ten franchises, many have kept their legacy through the years.
Stephen Fleming, the coach of the Chennai Super Kings, is considered the greatest coach in IPL history, having led the team to numerous title runs. Other notable coaches include Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Gary Kirsten, and Daniel Vettori, who have all contributed to their team’s success.
As the 2023 season approaches, many franchises are looking for fresh coaches and supporting staff to improve their game quality.
Here is a list of coaches and their salaries for two of the IPL franchises:
Chennai Super Kings
Head Coach: Stephen Fleming (salary of 3.5 crores), Batting Coach: Michael Hussey (salary of 3 crores), Bowling Coach: Dwayne Bravo (salary of 2.5 crores). Other supporting staff members include Rajiv Kumar (field coach), Tommy Simsek (physio), and Greg King (physical trainer).
Delhi Capitals
Head Coach: Ricky Ponting (salary of 3.5 crores), Bowling Coach: James Hopes (salary of 2.2 crores), Batting Coach/Assistant Coach: Shane Watson (salary of 3.2 crores). Other coaches include Biju George (fielding coach), Ajit Agarkar (assistant coach), Pravin Amre (assistant coach), and Sourav Ganguly (director of cricket).
Gujarat Titans
The Gujarat Titans have a coaching staff that includes the experienced Indian pacer Ashish Nehra as both head coach and pace bowling coach. Nehra earns a salary of 3.5 crores. The team’s batting coach and mentor is Gary Kirsten, known for his legendary coaching skills and experience with national and franchise teams around the world. Kirsten earns a salary of 2.5 crores. Other coaches on the staff include Vikram Solanki as Director of Cricket, Abdul Naim, Mithun Manhas, and Narender Negi as assistant coaches, Aasnish Kapoor as spin bowling coach and scout, Rohit Sawalkar as head physio, Gaurav Sharma as physio, Rajnikanth Sivagnanam as strength and conditioning coach, and Sandeep Raju as performance analyst
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders recently appointed Chandrakant Pandit as their head coach following the departure of Brendon McCullum. Pandit earns a salary of 3.4 crores. James Foster serves as the team’s batting coach and assistant coach, earning a salary of 2.4 crores. Bharat Arun, who has been part of the Knight Riders for several years, serves as the team’s bowling coach, earning a salary of 2.4 crores. Other coaches on the staff include Abhishek Nayar as assistant coach, David Hussey as mentor, Omkar Salvi as assistant bowling coach, Ryan ten Doeschate as fielding coach, and Chris Donaldson as strength and conditioning coach.
Lucknow Super Giants
Mentor and Batting Coach Gautam Gambhir, who is one of the most experienced and successful captains in the league, leads his new franchise with a salary of 3.5 crores. Head Coach Andy Flower, the overseas legend, heads the LSG coaching side and earns 2.5 crores. The Bowling Coach is Andy Bichel, the Aussie star who was part of the 2003 World Cup-winning squad and now coaches the LSG side for a salary of 1.5 crores. Other coaches include Vijay Dahiya as Assistant coach, Richard Halsall as Fielding coach, and Warren Andrews as Strength and Conditioning coach.
Mumbai Indians
Mark Boucher is the newly appointed Head Coach of the Mumbai Indians and his salary is 2.3 crores. Kieron Pollard, the veteran MI player, is the Batting Coach with a salary of 3.8 crores. Shane Bond, who has been part of the MI side for years, is the Bowling Head Coach for MI with a salary of 3.5 crores. Other important support staff include Zaheer Khan as Global Head of Cricket Development and Mahela Jayawardene as Global Head of Performance. Other coaches are James Pamment as Fielding coach, Craig Govender as Physio, and Paul Chapman as Strength & Conditioning coach.

Rajasthan Royals
Kumar Sangakara, the Sri Lankan legend and the world’s second most successful batter in cricket history, is the Director of Cricket, Mentor, and Head Coach for Rajasthan Royals with a salary of 3.5 Crores. The Batting coach is Amol Majumdar, who earns up to 2.2 crores as salary, though he doesn’t need to toil much in the star-studded batting lineup. Lasith Malinga, the legendary T20 bowling spearhead, is the Bowling Coach and makes 2.8 crores. Other staff include Zubin Bharucha as Development & Performance Director, Trevor Penney as Assistant Coach, and Dishant Yagnik as Fielding coach.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Sanjay Bangar, who was previously part of the Indian cricket team, is now the Head Coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore with a salary of 3.2 crores. Sridharan Sriram, who has been part of the RCB unit for many years, is the Batting & Spin Coach with a salary of 2.5 Crores. Adam Griffith is the RCB Bowling coach and earns a salary of 2.2 crores. Other supporting staff include Mike Hesson as Director of Cricket, Malolan Rangarajan as Head of Scouting & Fielding coach, Evan Speechly as Head Physio, and Basu Shanker as Strength & Conditioning coach.
Punjab Kings
Trevor Bayliss, who was previously Anil Kumble’s assistant, is now the Head Coach for Punjab Kings with a salary of 4 crores. Wasim Jaffar, who has a huge experience coaching the national side of Bangladesh and the domestic sides of Odisha, is the Batting Coach with a salary of 2.4 crores. Charl Langeveldt, who was newly appointed this year, is the Bowling Coach with a salary of 2 crores. Other staff include Brad Haddin as Assistant coach, who replaced Johnty Rhodes, and Andrew Leipus as Team Physio.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by head coach Brian Lara, have assembled a strong coaching team for the upcoming IPL season. Lara, a legendary cricketer from the West Indies, replaced Tom Moody and will earn a salary of 4 crores.
Assisting Lara is batting and assistant coach Simon Helmot, who will receive a salary of 2.3 crores from SRH. The team has also hired two of the biggest names in modern cricket as their bowling coaches: Dale Steyn for pace and Muttiah Muralitharan for spin. Muralitharan also serves as the strategic coach for SRH. Steyn will receive a salary of 3 crores, while Murali’s salary is 3.2 crores.
The team also has a strong support staff, including Hemang Badani as the fielding coach and scout, Theo Kapakoulakis as the physio, Mario Villavarayan as the physical trainer, and Gaurav Sundararaman as the performance analyst. Together, this coaching and support staff will be responsible for preparing the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for a successful IPL campaign.
